SPIRIT NOTES
The nose entertained us – "toasting campfire marshmallows", "shamanic smoke in a sweat lodge" and "witches puffing perfumed cigarettes around a bubbling cauldron". On the palate, one stayed with the campfire (now barbecuing prawns and sausages), one tasted vitamin C tablet in a spoonful of malt extract in a burning hospital, and the other was licking the witches’ ashtray. The reduced nose gave us sweet nutty smoke, chocolate digestives and lapsang souchong in a welly. The palate now delivered barley sugars in a humidor, lime marmalade on burnt toast and something of a ship’s engine room. This was matured in a refill Trinidad rum barrel after five years in ex-bourbon wood.
