Each month we have a Monthly Pick to highlight an available SMWS release that we think deserves some extra attention, which comes with a promotional price. This month it is East of Fortune, a 10yo single malt Scotch from Speyside.

SPIRIT NOTES

Full of nostalgia, the Panel felt, as though they had climbed aboard an old airliner: well-worn leather seats evoked travel past, coffee was served and lingered on the nose, and hard banana candy was handed out before take-off. The palate had a full texture – immediately sweet with dark fruits and sweet cigar tobacco, followed by cedar, white pepper and minted chilli salsa. Water gave both the nose and palate a serving of spiced bread and butter pudding, and creamed corn with chilli flakes. After six years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this to a first fill heavily toasted medium char hogshead for the remainder of its maturation.
